learning garden

We are a Seed Money Grant Winner !

‘Congratulations: You are receiving a Seed Money Grant! ‘, said an email from the Founder of Seed Money Roger Doiron aka the Chief Weeder.

Seed Money

Our Learning Garden participated in the crowd funding campaign on the Seed Money.com, an organization that supports food gardens, recently. It was a month long fund raising with a goal to raise $2000. Thanks to Roger’s continuous support and the donors, we managed to raise $180 during that time. There were more merit grants and we qualified for 1 of the $200 grant making it a total of $380

BBB Seed Wildflower Seeds

Earlier, BBB Seed donated more than $800 worth of seeds for the same fund raiser. We are deeply thankful to Becky  Hansen from the BBB Seed Company who sent us a huge box packed with their lovely heirloom vegetables last year as well and it greatly helped us to continue the Haq School’s Learning Garden where we volunteer.  They are doing an amazing job in preserving heirloom seeds of vegetables, herbs and wild flowers. Special thanks to our friends Aly Ercelawn and Shamim Rawjani who carried these boxes for us from USA to Karachi.

The Learning Garden

Our ‘Learning Garden’ started blooming in 2014 as a result of a mutual interest of the school management and the Crops in Pots. Crops in Pots is spreading knowledge about kitchen gardening since 2008 and Green Schools is one of its ongoing programs. After 3 years, the popularity of the Learning garden has grown greatly. Every student wants to be apart of this garden but we do not have enough resources.

Existing garden needs an upgrade urgently as well. Our fences are breaking apart, we need benches and gardening tools.  We also want to start cooking in our classes and for that we will need a grill or an electric stove.  Some other things that will make this garden complete are the gardening books, seed packs for all students to take back home, supply of pots and organic fertilizers, some garden accessories, netting, bird houses and a water feature.

This news could not be coming at a better time than this. Our Learning Garden is spreading to new schools this spring!  Stay tuned for the updates, seed give-aways, tutorials and volunteering opportunities.
